While being an RA, I've attended, participated, and contributed to monthly staff meetings addressing resident needs. I've made it a goal to serve as an approachable resource for residents seeking advice or assistance with personal or academic issues. I help oversee room transfers, incident reports, and maintenance requests. As part of the job, I also work at the front desk in the lobby. At the desk, I assist with any needs the residents might have, as well as visitors who come into the dorm. I have also hosted and organized events for the girls in the dorm to help them form connections with each other and form a support system.
For the last two summers, I have worked at ONElife Camp for foster kids. At this camp, I have been a camp counselor for kids ranging from 6-12 years old. I acted as a positive role model, demonstrating strong leadership skills and exemplifying the camp's core values. We did many activities with the kids and had to ensure smooth transitions between activities, which I did by efficiently managing time and resources throughout each day. I had to keep track of my campers throughout the day, during our lake time, different activities we were doing, and during our nightly church services. Not every day ran smoothly, and I led conflict resolution efforts among campers and handled intense situations.
Kids are my passion. They bring so much joy to my life, and I hope to bring just as much to theirs. I worked in both after-school care and summer care at the public school district. In the summers, I worked full-time, and my job consisted of watching the kids, helping with homework, keeping a constant headcount, and supervising the sign-in and sign-out process for parents. I ensured a safe environment for the kids by maintaining cleaning responsibilities. I developed age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities and crafts to engage all of the students while utilizing positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behavior.
