One Collective is a faith based organization, focused on community transformation in oppressed communities around the world. I co led this work in three countries, pioneering work for our organization in communities in Thailand and South Africa, and building off an existing foundation in Nicaragua. Our approach began with mapping out community strengths, assets, and needs, and building from there, to create access to needed resources.
We worked with local leaders, teachers, pastors, business owners, and political structures to bring people together to find solutions to communal problems. This work was heavily relational and needed a high level of cultural intelligence, creativity, patience, and community buy in.
Projects and focus areas included:
-Prevention and rehabilitation for sex trafficking
-Youth program for vulnerable populations
-Trauma counseling program
-Skills development
-Preschool feeding program
-Drug and alcohol rehabilitation center
-Building of local business
-Medical initiatives
-Discipleship and mentoring
-Community safety
Potter’s House is a local organization that seeks to build bridges and unite people in the community through a variety of projects and initiatives. I began working with them at their thrift store location. Through my work, sorting donations, I constantly came across high value items, which could be sold for much more than thrift store prices. I was asked to launch an online sales portion of the store. Through researching prices, market trends, and finding the best platforms I built out a successful online portion of the business. In addition to this, I created a vintage booth at the local store location, as well as a hybrid online purchase and local pick up for larger items through Facebook Marketplace.
Part of Potter’s House vision and mission is to work with diverse groups of people. The large majority of our warehouse staff are first generation immigrants and due to my cross-cultural experience and ability to speak Spanish, I have been asked to assist with conflict management, problem solving, and areas of cultural differences between staff and management.
This is my personal business, which I developed and launched after our return from overseas. I have always had a passion for horses and once we were back in the United States, I was able to pursue certification in equestrian bodywork. I work all over Northwest Arkansas and am still in the process of gaining my next level of certification.
