Paige Davies

As a student participating in the Patterson Summer Research Program, I am conducting research under analytic chemistry professor, Dr. Hubbard. My research focus is understanding the presence and patterns of bisphenol A (BPA) in feminine hygiene products. Using a spectrofluorometer, I will test the leaching of BPA from feminine hygiene produces into a synthetic vaginal fluid made in our lab.

I was chosen to act as Ouachita Student Foundation's student recruitment chair. Ouachita Student Foundations focus is making campus better for students, as well as raising scholarships to help keep students on campus who can no longer afford to be here. As student recruitment chair, I help run and host events for prospective students and answer any questions they may have about our school. This has really helped me grow in my communication skills, and has helped me get really comfortable interacting with all types of people.

As a first generation college students myself, I joined the leadership committee as an attempt to return the help that I have received from so many people o far in my college experience. The first generation leadership team provides a place for first generation students to ask questions and access resources.

Throughout my four semesters at Ouachita Baptist, I have had several opportunities to participate in course-based research. These experiences include phage lab, genetics, bioinformatics, organic chemistry, as well as cell & molecular biology.

Throughout highschool and now whenever I am home for breaks, I work as a preschool teacher for 4-6 year old children. This job has helped me grow as a person in many ways, but especially my ability to problem-solve and communicate.

During my freshman year, I participated in the Elder Serve program through the Elrod Center on OBU's campus. Through Elder Serve, I visited the assisted living facility weekly to talk to some of the residents and get to hear their stories. This experience helped me learn to interact with all types of people and help people who need it.
