  • Reception: Answering questions from defendants, attorneys, and other courts.

This also includes copying documents, rescheduling court dates, assisting attorneys with the filing of legal documents, criminal background checks, and verifying the accuracy of documents submitted by defendants

  • Cashier: Processing payments for fines and costs associated with the judge's sentencing. Tracking monthly payments for fines, costs, and restitution. Tracking case files electronically and/or physical cases.
  • Case preparation: Entering new documents, and tickets for upcoming court dates. Preparing worksheets for the head clerk and judge to use in court.
  • Review docket: In charge of the court's "review docket," which included making a monthly report overviewing defendants who were sentenced to probation, anger management, domestic violence classes, payment arrangements with the court, etc. The judge, probation officer, and I review around 20 to 40 cases monthly. After the docket was complete, I updated the new sentencing information electronically.
  • Bookkeeping: Doing daily deposits, end-of-month reconciliation, and overlooking the cashier department. Assisting cashiers with receipts, voids, or any questions they might have. Over the process of cash bonds, which includes receiving checks from the County Jail and processing them at the District Court. Completing monthly "partial payment reports" from the County Jail, which include receipting the payments made by defendants at the jail, along with their jail credit. Ensure that all fines and costs are collected and recorded properly. Refund defendants with checks due to restitution being owed, or refunds for overpayment.
  • Overall supervisor for the cashier's department, reception, and civil and small claims.
  • Train new staff on court procedures, and who would take on the cashier role.
  • Assist the judge as needed in the courtroom, such as preparing paperwork or corresponding with defendants.

Accomplishments

  • When starting at West Memphis District court I was a Deputy Clerk in reception. I had become so determined to make my mark that in a short year I was given a promotion to Chief Deputy Court Clerk, taking on the roll as Supervisor and Bookkeeper.

Certification

  • At West Memphis District Court we attend yearly training conferences in various locations, as we are a part of the Arkansas Court Clerks Association. We attend two training conferences a year and leave with valuable information and new knowledge on updated laws and procedures. I have obtained my certificate of completion for my 30 hours of additional training.
